FOR MEN ONLY: 7 Things You Absolutely Need To Know BEFORE Filing For Divorce in Florida – WATCH VIDEO

Melissa Birts is a family law attorney who combines honest advocacy with real compassion. Born in New York and raised in Miami, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies with a minor in Philosophy from Florida Gulf Coast University, then returned home to receive her Juris Doctor cum laude from St. Thomas University School of Law. During law school, she sharpened her skills as a Moot Court board member, worked at a family law firm, and served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Daryl Trawick, former Circuit Court Judge in Miami-Dade’s Family Division.
Melissa focuses exclusively on family law, handling cases involving divorce, child custody, timesharing, and parental rights for families across our firm’s locations. Her clients often describe her as the kind of attorney who “gets it.” She listens carefully, builds trust quickly, and isn’t afraid to give honest feedback, even when the truth is tough to hear. Melissa believes in involving her clients in every step of the process and crafting strategies that are realistic, thoughtful, and tailored to each family’s needs.
What truly sets Melissa apart is her ability to create a sense of safety and comfort for her clients. She knows that family law cases can bring out the most vulnerable sides of people, and she makes sure her clients know they’re not alone. Whether it’s listening, explaining their rights, or reassuring them with a well-thought-out plan, Melissa makes sure her clients feel supported and empowered.
At Vasquez de Lara Law Group, Melissa embraces the value of compassion, not just with clients but within the team of lawyers. She believes that respect and kindness create a stronger, more collaborative environment, and she brings that energy to everything she does. Outside of work, Melissa is a self-described Netflix binger, enjoys relaxing, and is a devoted family person. Her fun personality and upbeat attitude make her someone people naturally connect with, and clients find that reassuring during even the most stressful legal moments.
